Does other pets behavior affect the traing of a new pet? My wife has a Maltese that doesn't listen very well and is pretty much spoiled. Shes does things like puts her nose in the garbage when we turn our backs and ("makes" uses the bathroom ) in the house from time to time and my wife lets her get away with it. We are now getting a Boxer puppy and the dog will be pretty much be mine to trane like the Maltese is hers. I would like to trane him stricter than the Maltese is traned but I am afraid the Maltese's bad habits will rub off on him.. What should I do? and will her behavior affect the Boxer's???
Angel Eyes for dogs, did it change your pets behavior? My family has a (almost) 2 year old teacup Maltese, he used to be so hyper, and ever since he has started taking Angel Eyes (Tear Stain Reducer) he seems different, has anyone had this problem, do you think this is what may have changed his behavior??
Strange pet behavior. Tell me about your pets strangeness.? My dog likes to shock himself with static electricity. He will roll aound on the carpet then touch something metal with his nose. He'll do this over and over again. It took me while to figure out what he was doing. I checked with my vet and she said that she could see no harm in it. Share your pet's weird actions and I promise to pick a best answer. I'm looking forward to reading your stories.
Do caged birds (zoo, household pets) change their behavior during winter when they would normally migrate? Do birds exhibit any different behavior during the winter months (if they are migratory birds) since a cage is not their natural environment? My child asked me, and I really didn't know the answer. I do not have a bird; otherwise, I could learn by observation.
what are beagles like as pets?what is their behavior like? i'm so jealous,i seen a friend with one and want one.
Is the animal behavior college pet grooming program any good? I live in MI near the Flint area, and I want pursue a career in pet grooming. I've been looking into pet grooming schools, and found that the animal behavior college has a pet grooming program, which is a combination of in home studies and hands on. Is this school any good? Also, what other schools in Michigan would you recommend?
Do male and female animals, pets, birds, insects etc have the same thought patterns and behavior as human? male and female? I mean in terms of gender role and behaviours associated with the hormones such as female estrogen and male testosterone.
What would cause my cat's sudden change in behavior towards other pets? My cat Daisy is 4 years old. I have had her since she was a kitten. She had kittens when she was 2, and we kept one (Sweetpea). Daisy has always been loving towards Sweetpea. They never had any cat fights except for the occasional batting with their paw to the other. About 5 months ago we got a Shih Tzu. Neither cat was very happy about it, but there was no hissing or batting or clawing at him. So no major problems at that point. Over the last week i have notices increased hostility from Daisy to the other two pets. Hissing, mean meowing, batting and clawing. This was usually directed at the dog. Two to three days ago, it got worse, A LOT worse. She now is fighting with Sweetpea and the dog. It seems that there is more hostility towards Sweetpea. Daisy cant be around either one for very long with out fighting with them. What would cause this sudden change in behavior? Could it be that she's completely fed up with the dog and is just now showing it? She don't seem to be sick or hurt. I just cant figure it out.
Dogs neutering and spaying impact on pet dog behavior and Growth? I hear that it makes a dog larger and also calms down an active dog. Is this true?
How has your behavior towards your pets changed since becoming a parent? My daughter is now three weeks old and I've noticed that I'm a lot more strict with my animals. While I was pregnant I worked really hard with my male dog to not jump on me, but I was pretty lax about my female dogs and my cat's behaviors. My cat had her feelings hurt when she was banned from the bedroom after our daughter was born and then she went missing for two days and I about lost my mind with worry. I still love my animals to distraction, but they've definitely become pets instead of being treated like my children. What about you?
Do you want to understand your pet's behavior ? This question is for pet owners who are not animal behavior professionals. Do you want to understand your pet's behavior or are you more interested in directly eliminating the specific problems your pet has? I am a behavior analyst and I would like to write a manual to help pet owners resolve many of their own behavior problems, or to prevent them from happening in the first place. Trainers have different opinions- some think pet owners need simple info that applies to the specific issue at hand, while others think they need to understand the science of behavior to some extent to really be able to manage problems. So I am asking YOU. What do you as a pet owner need or want to know about your pet's behavior? Would you be interested in understanding WHY your pet does what he does, or do you mainly want to know how to get him to do certain things in certain ways so he's easier to live with?
what is the behavior of tabby cats? yes i need all the imformation i could get about tabby cats are they good pets there behavior good whith children evry thing please help
Can anyone explain this pet behavior? I have two cats, a kitten, and a dog. Whenever my kitten attempts to wrestle with one of the cats, they hiss (which I suppose is understandable). As soon as my dog hears what is going on, he growls and starts to pursue the cat that hissed. Also, we got the kitten a few months ago, and the cats still don't like him... why would this be? I figured they'd accept him as part of the family by now. Basically my questions are: Why does my dog chase the cats? and Why do the cats still hate the kitten?
2 year old Behavior with pets.? I have a few questions about some of my 2 year Old behavior. well hes 21 months to be exact. Firstly, we own 3 dogs, one very small dog, a med size dog, and a pit. Our pit lets our son do just about whatever he wants to him, jump on him..pull his gums..you name it. Med size dog has bite him once for trying this and since has been kept separate. But my smallest dog is always being hurt by him. I have tried spanking, (which doesn't seem to phase him at all) and time out, NO, everything! But he still continues to do it! Im out of things to try! anyone have similar issues? Is this something I just keep enforcing "no" and pray it stops? with most of his bad behavior I use "plan ignore" and it dies down. but of course I cannot do that in this case. It seems like he likes the attention he gets from hurting the dog, even though its not good attention. If anyone has had similar issues please any advice is greatly appt. Thank you oh gezzz please dont take it as I beat my child lol. I do spank my child on the bottom when its needed. Its more of a scare then to hurt him. I was spanked, and if anything it did me some good..So was my parents. there are different views on this in while answering my question Please keep that in mind before being a prick about it :) I understand that my 2 year old shouldnt be alone with the pets..which hes not. but hes very fast..and I cant exactly keep them seperated. My little dog is much to tiny to be outside all day..nor will I disown her due to this. shes also about 10lbs so I highly doubt my son could be killed by this. nor does she even bite him back. Wow I really feel like you guys are blowing this way out of control. I do not neglect my child. However, He shares a home with pets. Sometimes I do have to cook for him, or use the restroom, or grab crap from the washroom. I came here for advice not to get nagged at by people who "think" they are perfect parents. And I have taught my son to be nice to the pets. He knows "nice" and is very kind when I tell him too. That doesnt help the fact that if I turn away for a second He will go to hurt her. And for the one who said to disown my pets, no thank you. I will find a way to resolve this without throwing my pets in a shelter. I have a commitment to my pets as I do my child.
Is it best to try to say the lives of unwanted pets even if it means warehousing them for a long time? Or, as the pound does, euthanize after only 10 days? What's a happy medium? I have some experience with this. I adopted a young walker hound that had lived in a no-kill for 2 1/2 out of the 3 years of her life. She was not badly treated, but her behavior was shocking. The first 6 months that I owned her, she spent most of her time compulsively jogging around in circles, and the rest of the time focused in escaping--she was an accomplished fence climber. If in the house, she peed and pooped everywhere, chewed everything she could get her mouth on, and was obsessed with getting food. When she killed a cat, I was ready to give up on her, but my kids begged me to give her one more chance. I did, and over time, she became a calm, wonderful pet. Examples of the same behaviors seem to be typical of pets living in a no-kill shelter for an extension amount of time--so is it best to euthanize unwanted pets after so much time. I mean "save"
Do your pets have special behaviour problems? How do you deal with those problems?
How to either punish or reinforce a cat's behavior? I have a 15 year old orange male Tabby cat. His name is Nikki. He is my fiance's cat. My fiance had left hm at his dad's house when he moved in with me, but then his dad passed suddenly so we had to take him in. Nikki took to me very fast and we are both happy for that. Of course, as with all pets, he does have a couple behaviors we don't like. - Scratching on the carpet instead of his pole. He is not declawed and we will never get him declawed. - Meowing a lot at night or first thing in the morning. We get up at 2am-4am for our jobs. We have tried being stern in tone, giving him taps and light 'spankings', spraying him with water, and even ignoring him as forms of punishment. As for positive reinforcement, we have tried to praise him, give him treats, pet him, and just over all be nice and loving. We do love him very much, but it is really only those two behaviors we want him to stop. Especially since we live in an apartment. Any ideas? Suggestions? Tips? It is not that he bugs us at night when we are sleeping. It is when we get up that he starts meowing a lot. Especially if we lay back down, even for a moment no matter how long we were up until that moment. We don't want him to wake the neighbors. Also, he HATES closed doors. He will meow, whine, scratch. and claw at the door until we open it. he was raised in a cage until he was nearly a year old. My fiance says he has always hated closed doors. We have tried spraying or rubbing his pole with nip. We do not have any extra carpet bits to give him right now. We would get him a friend, but he gets jealous around other cats and beats them up. We do not have a porch to put him out on. We don't just want to set him loose in the complex. we are afraid someone will take him or that he will get lost or killed. He used to live in AL and we now live in TX. He has not been outside in the whole time and he was never much of an outdoor cat to begin with. The new apartment we are moving too in a couple months will have a porch and we will let him out regularly. Until then, we don't want to let him out.
Is there a particular reason why Jewish people don't have pets? Sorry for asking this question. Although my mother is Jewish I wasn't raised Jewish... However, I can recognize something special in their behavior concerning having pets. What can you tell me about this. Thx BTW: I asked my mother but she doesn't know. However, neither she nor her mother or grandmother have ever liked pets. As a kid, I was allowed to have an aquarium. A dog or a cat was unthinkable.
How can I improve the behavior of my pet lib? My pet lib has been hating me ever since i got him from the k9 shelter. instead of being nice to me and the house he lives in, he makes good friends with my enemies called Chyna and Eran. my pet lib does not support me or the house he lives in. isn't it pathetic? should i ask my pet lib to leave this house and stay with chyna/eran?
Is spaying and neutering pets will lead to the extinction of cats and dogs? All cat and dog books say it is good for them so that they aren't unhappy and doing hostile behavior such as urinating all over the place however if all pets no longer had their ability to rerpoduce wouldn't that lead to the extinction of cats and dogs?
What is your number one pet peeve about male behavior? Just curious. What really annoys you about men in general? Or if you want to keep it positive, what do you really like about men in general? Or both.
Is it normal for one pet to mimic the behavior of another when the other dies? My cat of 14 years passed away a month ago and now the other one, who we only had for several months before my Jessi's death, has gone from being withdrawn to being obsessively cuddly like Jessi was. Is this normal?
Becoming a pet behavior specialist? I'm looking to become a specialist in animal behavior so I can perhaps work at a Humane Society as someone who assesses animal behavior for adoptability, and to work with special needs animals who may need work before being adopted to a home. Does anyone know if there is special certification I need that can be picked up at a college, or if this would be more of an apprenticeship thing? I already have experience working in pet care (on a more veterinary assistant level), and I've worked as a pet adviser (Giving people advice on what kind of pet is for them and helping them find the right one). But I'd like to make my career assessing pets for adoptability and working with ones who need a little more care before being adopted so I can do something that makes a real difference in a pet's life.
Is it morally okay to euthanize our pets when they are sick, but not ourselves? How can we compartmentalize such behavior? If we don't want to see our pets suffer when they are terminally ill, why on earth would we want to suffer ourselves, or have our loved ones suffer
Can any of you please explain this bee behavior? I know that no question is stupid, but I am convinced this one is. From all the shows I've seen, I noticed that when they talk about someone who's wearing/covered in bees always is a guy. Why is that? I know that the worker bees always follow the queen's scent. Is this behavior similar to when male pets get possessive of their female owners? I was just wondering...
rewarding good behavior or disciplining bad? Would you reward your pet for good behavior or discipline them for bad behavior? why? Personally I discipline for bad behavior. I don't want my cat to behave because they get rewarded for it, I want them to behave because they get in trouble if they don't. I've had a pet for 15 years and currently have 2 cats and a dog and I've used the same discipline system on them and they're all pretty well behaved with the exception of the 7 month old kitten that I've had for 4. So what method do you prefer and why? How has it worked for you? I think what some of you are missing is that humans have desires to do things that come naturally too but they are against the law. I have rules of my own, like stay off the table, don't lick the toilet(yes, my cat actually struggles with this) or any other thing, don't play in the litterbox, don't bite the other cats ears and such. I do reward them with a "thank you for listening" with a certain tone if they obey a command, but I don't reward them for giving the other cat kisses, using the litter box w/o playing in it, or any other expected behavior.
do savannah Monitors make good pets? I want to know if savannah monitors make good pets and why. ( What is there behavior if handled regularly, can they be around a cat without trying to hurt it and if they can be handled regularly etc...) if you want to recomend another lizard then plz do and tell me everything you know about them.
Is it true people love their Roomba vacuum cleaner things like pets and become attached to them? I read that people grow so attached to these things that they will get them repaired and fixed even if the repair bills are far higher than it costs to get a new one - much like people do with their pets. And ... people love their roombas so much, they will put a special hidden mark on or in their machine when they are sent off for repairs, so they will know if their machine was swapped for another one. I find this behavior very scary if true. So, is it true or not?
Have your pets had any reaction to your pregnancy? Some say pets (particularly dogs) can tell when you are pregnant and their behavior changes accordingly. Anyone notice this? Either positive or negative? Just the pregnancy, not the baby. Just curious!
My son is hurting our pets what do I do? My wife and I recently took in 2 ferrets from a family that could not take care of them. At first things were great my son loved them and they love him too. Now he will run after them and throw them all over the place, grabbing them violently, and squeezing them to the point of them trying to bite him when we take them away from him. He is only 22 months old. Is this behavior changeable? will it pass? Is he too young for these pets? They pretty much leave him alone unless he is attacking them. My wife and I are very patient with him and never yell or spank. He is beginning to throw tantrums on a 4 times a week basis. getting worse. These I am not concerned about it is the behavior with the small animals that worries me. Can someone HELP me?
Is it wrong not to allow pets to sleep in bed with you at night? I am having an ongoing arguement with my wife that the family cat should not be encouraged to "hang around" while we are sleeping. My wife will pet and coddle the cat during the night and I'll remove him as soon as he jumps back in. I have my reasons such as shedding and possible disease transmission, etc. Besides keeping the bedroom door shut, I'm really close to resorting to the "spray bottle technique". The cat is still young (8 months), and I want to stop this behavior before it gets routine for the cat.
Do you ever think your children will behave like your pets do? I sometimes wonder if my pet's behaviour is a result of my 'parenting' skills and therefore how they behave will be like how my children will behave. I.e I have cats and ferrets - they are all extremely loving and gentle (I give them loads of attention) but terrible at doing 'naughty' things - I don't think I discipline enough / in the right way. Just a weird thought going through my head!! Of course its harder that you can't 'talk' to your pets....
Suggestions welcomed for discouraging an unwanted pet behavior. (ie, "punching")? Our 13 month old Great Dane "punches" us (usually in the chest, arms and face) when she wants attention. I realize that she only wants to play and it is not maliciously intended, but because of her size I am concerned that this behavior is potentially very dangerous to my family and our guests. Generally we react by removing her paw and saying firmly, "off" and "down" but the behavior still occurs. Have you experienced this issue? If so, what worked for you and your pet? Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
do potbellied pigs make good pets? what do they eat how long do they live for are they good pets behavior etc.
Has anyone tried Happy Jack Mange Ointment on their pets? If so, what were the results? I just purchased this product for my pet. I see a change in her behavior already. She no longer bites or scratches her skin. She was diagnosed with sarcoptic mange but the dips didn't work. This product was recommended, but I haven't read any testimonials about how well this product works. Any comments would help. Thanks to everyone in advance. :)
Are miniature schnauzers good to Have as pets? What would be the proper care of this breedof dog?Behavior? I'm interested in owning one since my mom always works and I would like to have a pet to keep me company.
How is this to solve bad owner problems? So, I think I have figured out how to prevent poor breeding and poor dog ownership with aggressive breeds. What do you guys think of the law holding the owner criminally responsible for their pets behavior? Let me know your thoughts of that. I am talking criminally responsible... If your dog bites someone YOU are charged with assault.
Have you heard of a cat piddeling while a person is petting it? How do you stop this behavior? A friend found a stray, declawed cat last night. Today she called and asked me what to do because while she petted this very cuddly cat it peed on her when it got very happy(excited). What can she do about this?
Bad Pet Behavior? Im in search of a few websites that concern bad canine behaviors for a class. I work at a clinic, but Im not able to use one of the cases due to privacy of the owner/pet. I don't really know what sort of bad behavior I want to research yet. In my project I need to: describe the mannifestations of the disease, and how to correct the probelm. Any help would be great!! Thanks!!
Anybody know about hedgehogs as pets? I've been thinking about small pets I could get for my first apartment next year. Would anybody know how good hedgehogs are as far as that goes, in terms of behavior, cost and maintenance?
Does anyone have this problem - every few years I get an urge to adopt a pet or pets? Could this urge to give love to an adoptable pet be due to a tubal ligation? I find this to be very odd behavior. I am not a pet hoarder. I just love pets!! Should I seek psychiatric help or take medications? I talked to my doctor about this and her response was, "you are just a nice person." I'm confused...I didn't think this was a normal response.
Is this normal behavior for a pet rat? I have two female pet rats named Shiro and Lily. I give them treats through the bars of their cage and say their names at the same time (I'm trying to teach them their names). This is fine. When ever I give treats to Shiro, she will put them in one corner of her cage and make like a stash of food. If Lily even heads in that direction, Shiro will attack her. Is this normal? What should I do about it?
What pet peeves do you have regarding other people's behavior? I get really freaked out when someone I don't know or don't know well asks me a question and they stand way too close to me. I think this is a really common pet peeve.
How do you view your pet? How many behavioral problems? Everyone wants to learn right? Lies will not help the learning process. My question is 1...How do you view your pet? Little furry human,,, or Animal? Question 2....How is your pets behavior? Over protective, chews/destroys things, friendly with other people, bites strangers, nips you, growls at you in your own bed, barks alot, walks on a leash, friendly to other dogs/pets, not friendly to other dogs/pets.....etc..etc.
How many owners of Rottweilers have had bad experiences with their pets? A lot of people that I know are very afraid of the Rottweiler, mostly through what they've heard from somebody's experience or simply because the dogs do exhibit aggressive behaviour to strangers around their territory or their family. Does anybody have personal bad experience with their pets or somebody else's pets and if so, would you mind filling me in please. My two dogs, Roxy and Shaka are really my best companions and are part of the family. I trust them absolutely. Thanks. Roxi
Do colored lights affect the behavior of fish? Will different colored lights affect the behavior of my pet fish (Goldfish or Mollies)?
Pet owners: What is some really cool dog-canine type behavior I can use in my werewolf novels? And don't mention scratching their butts on the carpet. I already know about that!
What's your biggest pet peeve about other people's behavior? For me, I'd have to say nothing bugs me more than when people make assumptions of you & judge you, when they know absolutely nothing about the kind of person you are. What about you?
My kitten of 5 months only wants to eat wet food, What can I do to correct her behavior? We have to kittens Hillary (5 months) and Sabiene (4 months). Hillary who my wife found at 4 weeks has recently become an angry kitty she doesn't want to be petted nor carried and she is defecating everywhere. I am more than convinced the reason for her behavior is that my wife got her accustom to eating wet food when she first brought her home. And lately we have been cutting down the amount of wet food we give them. Sabiene doesn’t mind. When I do feed them wet food, Hillary will scarf down her food and will also go and eat Sabiene’s food, I have to separate them. What can I do to correct her behavior?
On the Sims 2 Pets what are all the behaviors a dog can learn? ? I don't want to know the commands, my dog knows all the commands. What are all the behaviors that can possibly be learned? Thanks.
y cat tends want to fight and attack my other cats! How do I stop this behavior? My cat was an outside cat! We had him for about 7 months! He is freindly with humans and loves to be petted/rubbed! However, he see my other cats and want to jump on them and bite! Then when we pick him up and take him to a seperate room he bites out hands! I am not sure if this aggressive behavior will change or if my cat will get along with my other cats!
A question about the behavior of my cockatiel? My cockatiel is about 5 or 6 months old now, and he isn't showing any sort of abnormal behavior. However, whenever anyone else tries to get them on his finger, other than myself, he goes to bite them. Same thing when it comes to petting him. My mom has long fingernails and I thought maybe he was afraid of them and that's why he won't let her touch him, but sometimes on occasion he does it to my dad as well. Someone please help me.
How many Dog Behaviors are there on Sims 2 Pets? I have Sims 2 Pets, aswell as other expansions.. But how many Pet Behaviors are there? (The positive ones, not negative lol) So far I have: Calm Destructive Clean Playful Stays Off Beds Eat Pet Food Housebroken Stays Off Furniture Are there anymore? If so please list them and tell me what they do, and what i should praise/scold. And one more question: How do you teach them to be calm? I have a dog who has a bit of calm, and i dont know how she got that. What should she do that i scold or praise?
Normal pet behavior? I recently just took in my aunt's cat Milo b/c she does daycare and can't have him. He is about 6 months old. I already have a cat Jake that is 4 to 5 months old. They are both boys, but Jake is neutered. Milo attacks Jake and they really go at it. Is this normal behavior, like a male dominance thing, or should I be concerned?
What should I do about my guinea pig's behavior? I have a female guinea pig who I've had since last Mother's Day from Petsmart. When we first got her she was really sweet and shy and we let her have her space so that she would get settled in to our home but after she got settled she got mean. When we tried to pet her she'd grind her teeth and spit us, she still does that not but she's gotten a little bit better. She wouldn't let us touch her but for a brief few seconds. We try to keep her as happy as we can by giving her tons of carrots, celery, oranges, water, the pellet food that she loves so much, and every once in awhile a treat. We even have "blankets" in her cage which she also loves so much. She squeals alot for attention and when it's given to her she just wants to instantly be alone. Is there something I'm not doing right or is that how she's always going to act? I love her to death and I just want to know if her behavior is normal or abnormal.
What's your biggest pet peeve about other people's behavior? For me, it's being inconsiderate and self-absorbed where other people have to be inconvenienced. For example, I'm tired of waiting extra long on a line because the guy up front is on his cell phone instead of paying attention. Or when people park in the handicap spot because the regular spot is "too far"; as if the person who parks all the way at the end is somehow inferior and must walk. You?
What could have changed my Chihuahua's behavior? I have a year old chihuahua. About a week ago, his attitude changed towards my husband and son. He nips at them and doesn't want to play with them. In the mornings, my husband takes him out to potty before leaving, but the last couple of days he has been nipping at my husband from his crate. There is no abuse on their part. In fact, my husband babies him more than I do. He will get up and sit with my husband and let him pet him. His attitude towards me is fine if not a little too clingy sometimes. He is eating and drinking well. He is pooping and peeing, too. He doesn't act sick (i.e. sleeping all the time, not eating). Any advice? What may cause this? How do I change this behavior?
What is the biggest problem related to pets in society? We humans live in close contact with dogs, cats and several other species of companion animals. Living in close contact with ANYONE can occassionally result in problems... behavior problems (aggression, chronic barking, fear) or in management issues. What do you think is the problem that most badly needs a solution in terms of animals living among us?
How did your family pets react to the arrival of your newborn? Any tips on making it easier? I am due in 7 weeks time...Well my husband and I have a year old border collie. Since I have become pregnant, he has become very protective of me to the point he would growl that came within 5 feet of me...He never did this before and I am worried about his behavior when the baby comes. Everyone keeps assuring me that "he will be fine once the baby is here". But I am still worried.
Do you have to hold a license to vaccinate pets? I am considering opening a business that provides Non-anesthetic Dental Cleaning, Animal Behavior Modification, and Grooming... possibly even vaccinating if i legally can. I know you have to be a vet to give the rabies vac... but the others do you really have to be licensed? Please answer if you really know... and be mature please.
Why are pets more attached to pregnant women? I have noticed that my cat has been very attached to me ever since I got pregnant. For my cat, the best person in the house has suddenly shifted from my husand to me. Does anyone have similar experience? Or more importantly, does anyone know the more scientific explanations behind this behavior?
pet behavior sugestions? hello, my name is tammy, i have a cat named tiger and i have a problem with him. i don't know is age, but the problem i have is he continusly pee's out side of his litter box. he goes on mine and my husbands clothes and every where else. could you please give me any suggestions on what to do? thanks for your time, tammy tiger is fixed, it stareted after an other cat was brought in. the other cat is gone but, still does it.
Typical male behavior in dogs and neutering? I have 2 male golden retrievers, the oldest is 15 months and the other is 10 months. I'm really indecisive about having them neutered. I know the why I should do its, to prevent roaming, marking of territory, tescular cancer and unwanted mating. When do male dogs usually starting showing these behaviors (roaming and marking of territory)? Right now my dogs have not marked anything at all and seem to have no desire to roam. My Mom and I both are responsible pet owners and wouldn't allow them to just run free other than in the backyard. Would they already have shown these behaviors or is the best yet to come? The only problems we seem to have now is a bit of a dominance strugge between them and the younger one is more aggressive. They are quite active amongst themselves and keep eachother occupied when we can not. With the tescular cancer what are the chances and at what age would it become apparent if at all? I realize this question has been asked many times but I just want to make sure I'm doing the right thing. The appointment is today (they are both now at the vets).
My cat attacks me! How do I train him to stop this behavior? I have had cats my entire life and I have never experienced this type of behavior. I adopted him almost a year ago from a shelter and he was the friendliest cat in the building. he suckered me! Once I brought him home he was a little hellion. How it usually starts is, he will come up to me and want to be pet so I will pet him and then out of the blue he's attacking my arm. I'm not agressively petting him and I know where he doesn't like to be pet. So once he bites I say no and I take him off of my lap. If I get up right after I move him he attacks my legs and it's not like a little nibble, it's a full out chomp. He draws blood frequently and had actually left bruises on my arms. Any ideas?
Is speeding to rush a dying pet to the ER acceptable behavior? Here in my home town of San Marcos we have tongues wagging over the following news story- http://www.keyetv.com/news/local/story.aspx?content_id=10075835-0be5-45e9-9e2b-ba493f902847 http://www.sanmarcosrecord.com/local/local_story_234121723.html?keyword=topstory Your views are welcome.
Is it OK to talk to your pets like they are a person? I often talk to my dog like I would to an other human being. Is that strange or normal behavior?
What would you do if you had a pair of transsexual rats described below as pets? In the later decades of the century, neuroscientists found significant sexual dimorphism in microstructures in the brains of animals and humans. Experiments on rats indicated that hormone levels during a period in late gestation and early post-natal development to be critical to the development of these structures and subsequent behavior. Gorby was able to create what he described as a laboratory model of transsexuality in rats. He demonstrated this in both MTF and FTM cases. When he introduced them to each other, the FTM rats mounted the receptive MTF rats.

How do I stop this behavior? I play alot of mouth games with my puppy Bella. I know that this is not good because now everytime I go to pet her, she thinks that I am trying to let her chew on my hands. Also, my 1year old cousin tried to pet her and she almost started to chew on his hands. How can i stop this so she won't injure a child? And so I can pet her without her trying to chew my hands?
Can pit bulls that were once used to fight really be rehabilitated and be made good pets? I saw a special in tv the other night where some pit bulls were taken from a fireman's house in Milwaukee. He had been using them to fight, and they were placed in a training center and some experts have worked with them for one year and now they are being put up for adoption. That's sounds a little scary to me. Would you adopt a pitbull that you knew came from a fighting background? Seems like they could still be unpredictable and something may trigger that behavior again wouldn't you think? Thanks dark reaction! I checked out the link you provided and it was very imformative. Some surprising results on there too.
Have your pets changed personalities? I have two cats for about four years now and in the last year they have changed personalities. Kennedy used to be shy and only come around when he wanted to. He did not like if you rubbed is stomach. Sunny loved and followed us around like a dog. Now Kennedy is always up under me rolling over and showing me his tummy and just loves to be rubbed. Sunny is shy and skittish now but when all is quiet he is still a lap cat at heart. Have your pets changed their behavior my little guys changed last year after my wife and i took a long trip. kennedy i guess missed us and now won't let us out of his site (even a year later) Sunny became more indpendent and self rliant but has his moods where he wants all the attention
Cat behavior: Why does my cat always show us his food? He'll meow, and meow, and meow, until we walk downstairs with him, and pet him by his food. Is this kind of behavior normal in cats? He's part siamese, and I heard they're noisy, does that have something to do with it? I'm not really worried about it, 'cause it's actually kinda cute, but I am curious to hear what other people think.
What kind of behavior does this sound like you? I have a steer who's around 1 1/2 years. He is very skittish, and does not allow anyone but me to handle and be around him without attempting to run. Once he even tried to jump a 7 foot fence! But even with being skittish, he is NOT very aggressive. I had to set him in his place when I first got him, but since then he's been ok. That is, until I take him off his harness and lead rope. He does not really try to run away or be aggressive. I will pet and scratch him. I will even walk around the field and he will eventually follow. Sometimes he will lick my legs. Well, I don’t like slimy cow spit on my pants, so I often move away. When I do walk away from him, he tries to head butt me as if I've done something wrong by moving away from him. Is some kind of aggression, or harmless "horseplay"? Licking in cattle is usually a social thing, so I'm confused as to why he would turn “aggressive” so suddenly. I don't really veiw him as a "pet", but all the same I spend time with him. And his is a steer, not a bull. A bull would be a big no-no for me. I do plan to show him. Thanks!
How can I change my cats behavior? He is an a-hole. He bites when you try to pet him and when you walk away he'll grab on to your legs and bite them too. He is 7 months old, and we have had a spray bottle since day one that doesn't work,heck-he comes in the shower with me!!! Is there some other effective way of teaching him not to bite??? Is this a phase that they go through? Any help is appreciated.
Who thinks dogs plan and execute revenge anyone with an understanding of dog behavior? There was a question asked about a dogs destructive behavior,It sounded like a pretty clear example of separation anxiety to me as well as some of the other answerers. One of the other answerers said "Your dog is mad at you and is taking revenge by being destructive" I find that absurd. revenge is a human ,not canine behavior. Though there may be times it seems our pets are acting out of vengence I believe their motivations are something entiely different. I'd like to hear your thoughts**Especially Behaviorists.I must add the asker seems to believe the 'revenge' theory.

Are monkeys losing their natural behavior in captivity and becoming more like a pet animal? Do you agree with this statement that monkeys in captivity are more like pet... If yes why,,, explain it further... thanks
Do jumping spiders make good pets? I really like jumping spiders and their behavior. So i was thinking about catching one and keeping it as a pet. Are they easy to take care of? What would i need to do to care for them, such as feeding and housing requirements and anything else involved in their care. Lastly, are there any other suggestions for a pet spider (besides a tarantula). Thanx for any help. By the way, my local jumpers are zebra spiders and these little brown ones roughly the same size as a zebra spider which i don't know the name of.
My husband is abusive to my dog but none of the other pets? My husband has never liked my dog because he's very energetic but otherwise a good, intelligent tibetan terrier. We have another dog that he likes which is a small breed and two rabbits as well, all of which he treats very well. What can I do about this behavior...it's gotten so bad he kicks him.
Why does my cat show aggressive behavior to anyone that walks in the house? She doesnt act mean towards anyone who lives here, But If I have friends over, she will hiss and meow really loud at them when they try to pet her. Why do some cats act this way?
Oh my! My pet dog keeps on eating her "own stuff!" How can I stop her ridiculous behavior? It's like...Eeeeeewwww! She keeps on eating her POOP! I never let her go hungry for a single day and yet she still keeps on eating her...I think I wanna vomit! How can I stop her from doing such thing? I have my own life to do. How to Correct "Humping" Behavior in My Neutered Male Cat? I just brough home very sweet, loving, Siamese mix kitty from the SPCA. He is 1 year old and recently neutered. On his very first night home, he spent over an hour humping on my clothes left on the bed. I tried taking them away from him and he snapped at me. I tried telling him "No" and using a pillow to gently bat him off of the shirt, and he proceeded to continue anyway. He cannot be distracted. He will bite if I touch him while he's in this state. I tried just walking away, and he chased after me and nipped at my ankle, like he was trying to make me stay with him. He did calm down after about 10 minutes of me walking away and shutting the door, but as soon as I can back in and petted him, he was right back at it. It is so weird, his eyes glaze over in concentration. He looks so frustrated and miserable! This happened three times in one night. I had to lock him in the bathroom so I could be left alone while sleeping. Can this behavior be stopped?
Judging by my rabbits behavior, what sex do you think it is? My New Zealand rabbit wont let me look under it at all. When out side it will only pee and poop on the grass. In its outside hiding spots, it will not let me go in. If i do, it will scratch me. It allows me to go in its cage and clean it. It also doesnt let me touch her feet, but it does let me pet her everywhere else.
