What pet health insurance policies are recommended? My dog has been on the Banfield Wellness Plan for a few years, but I am discovering that it is not one of the best health plans. Her current plan only allows her to get treated at the Banfield Hospital that the plan was signed up under, and they don't have extended hours. They are always closed on Sundays and Mondays, and it's difficult to find a vet that doesn't charge too much for anything. I'm trying to look for a different pet health insurance plan where I can take her anywhere any time during the week or weekend.
what's a good website for pet health and anatomy? I want a good link to a good website about pet health and detailed anatomy. I want to be a vet when Im older and want to start learning about pets and their bodies and diseases and stuff but detailed in like half scientific language so I can learn properly.
If mold is not directly in the area, could it still affect pet health? There is mold in a bathroom pretty bad and im very sure it's between the sheetrock where the drainage goes out towards our ac unit. We have many animals... if the mold exists between the walls, but is not out in the open... will it still circulate and cause negative effects on my pets health? There are young animals, birds to be specific. There have been incidents of illnesses... respiratory. I have closed off the molded area. I have hesitated to clean the mold myself becuase i do not want to stir it up or clean it improperily, or even myself to be affected. I myself do not have the authority to appoint a cleaning crew to the building, but i want to get other's advice to make sure my theory about this isnt insane before i push this issue. Thanks guys! Also... the celing panels recently experienced leaking from the upsairs tennants... which is causing spotting on the corrogated paneling. There is also yellowish staining on the outside of the airvent... does this indicate that there will be more mold growth in the future? and does the whole celing and everything need to be replaced? The leak was drainage from the upsairs bathroom... yuck. It's an old building... and the temperature is always above 70 degrees and higher during the summer... becuase of livestock. What to do...
People posting q's about thier pets health, when said pet should really be taken to the vet immediately? Does this not bother others? People post questions about their pets health, like: "Oh no! My dog broke it's leg, should I take it to the vet?" well, duh. Sure, some questions deserved to be asked. But sometimes, they're just not worth the time, when you could be getting your pet the help it needs. I want to know other people's opinion on this. If my pet was hurt, the first thing I would do would get it help, not rush to my computer to ask the help of strangers.
Is there a good pet health insurance out there? My husband and I recently took in a boxer mix. I think he may be about a year old. We dont know if he has had shots or anything. We are a low income family but, our girls really love this dog so giving him up is out of the question. We can barely afford our health costs let alone a dog. If you know of a good cheap but reliable health insurance policy or carrier let me know.
Are there any pet health insurances that will cover a pre-existing condition? Our 18 month old cat has broken his femur and the only way to help him is by surgery but it will cost us ovef $2,500.00. The only other options are to let him live in pain or put him down. Are there any pet insurances that will help us with the surgery even thought the broken leg is a pre-existing condition?
What do you think about pet health insurance? My older bully (only 2 years old) has really bad allergies and we have recently had to pay about 1000 dollars for allergy tests and allergy shots. We are worried about the new puppy (3 months old) because of his probs. I am wondering whether it is cost effective to get insurance for her. I looked up the AKC insurance and the complete package was about 55 dollars per month.
What is the best company to get pet health insurance from? I have a 5 mon of lab puppy that I am considering purchasing insurance for. There are a lot of companies out there, all offering what appears to be similar plans. But, which company treats their insurers the best, and actually awards claims?
Can you trust the health of pet store animals? We all know puppies in pet stores come from puppy mills, bad, but what about other animals in the store? Do they typically have a horrible upbringing and likely have health issues? Like snakes, ferrets, etc.
Dog / pet health and acclimation certificate? I plan on taking my dog to NJ by plane from CA. I read that NJ requires a pet health certificate. How much does it usually cost? Since the temperature will be below 45F, AA requires an acclimation certificate. What's involved in getting one of these? Will the vet need to put my dog in a refrigerator for a while or what? How will they know that my dog can withstand 20-45F temperatures? For those in LA, can you recommend a vet for this air travel business?
What is the best pet health insurance? I have a 5 year old Shih Tzu who had a problem with her eye. At first the Vet said it could be from diabetes, glaucoma, cancer, etc... He mentioned specialist and test which he said is very costly. He ran test and it was an minor infection which cleared up. But if it were something worse, I'd wish I had insurance. I have seen many online and a couple at the Vet. Can anyone recommend one and why? Thanks!!!
Do pet fish offer any health benefits? I've read that pet fish are therapeutic, is that true? And do they offer any other health benefits? I'm going to buy a betta and put him in a small bowl. Well, I live in a small dorm, so the fish will definitely live in a bowl. I've never known someone to own a betta NOT in a bowl. It'll be big enough for him to play around in, not one of the tiny ones.
how can i get legal advice regarding a pet health insurance company who denied a claim. I appealed to the co.? i have had the same pet insurance for 8 years. ln feb 2004 my lab had a smal nosebleed. took him to the vet and was told dogs can get nosebleeds and appeared healthy. Had a couple of episodes of reverse sneezing. called the vet and was told most likely allergies. his insurance policy is from july to july. In september he had a large nosebleed and after many tests was diagnosed with nasal cancer. the insurance company refused to pay stating his iinitial symptoms began in the previous policy period and therefore not covered. No where in his medical record does it state he had cancer. I feel as if I've always done the best for my lab, securing lhealth insurance and taking him to the vet for any unusual symptoms and I feel i've been let down by both. Could the vet have diagnosed him earlier or should the pet health insurance co take responsibilty and pay the medical cost i have incurred for his treatment. Who can i go to for advice. Is there time limitation in persuing action. thanks
Do you buy pet health insurance? I found it easier to pay the premiums each month than have another $600.00 vet bill like when our Duncan ran out of the house one freezing, stormy night and came home sick with pnemonia. The bad side is it doesnt cover yearly shots, deworming or the like.
Can anybody suggest a good pet health insurance? Hi I am looking for some good vet insurance for my cat. I am low income and I want to. take my cat to the vet but can't afford it. I don't mind paying a monthly fee as long as it's affordable. I need one that will help pay the vet exam and etc. Thanks

how come when ever someone asks about their pets health the people in the pet category treat you like your...? stupid? i asked a question about my puppy and the majority of you were nice and helpful but there is always those few who act like im completely retarded or that i dont know how to take care of my pets. i have noticed people act like that a lot when a question about a pets health is asked. i put in the first line of my question that i was taking my puppy to the vet because if i didnt i know i would get answers like "what are you doing on yahoo answers? take your dog to the vet" but even after saying im taking my dog to the vet people still feel the need to tell me to take my dog to the vet. but they add immediatley to it. like i called my vet and told her "yeah i need to make an appointment for my puppy, can you give me the furthest opening from today?" im a grown women and i have had pets my whole life. i know how to take care of them. so my original question is why everytime anyone asks a question about there pets heath do people act like we are stupid? sorry for being so cranky and thanks to all of you who gave helpful answers. im just a cranky pregnant person
Is Pet Health Insurance Worth It? I have been checking out VPI Pet Health Insurance for my puppy. Has anyone had any experiences with this company? Is it a good thing, or a rip off? Please share your experiences. Thanks!!
What do I do with older pet rats that have health problems when I have to move? I'm moving internationally and there's no possible way to take my pet rats with me. I don't think anyone will want them because they're older (nearing 3 years old) and not cute anymore. They have thinning hair, one has a mammary tumor, and one has a tumor on her foot with a sore that refuses to heal (the vet has said he can't do anything for her). The girls are tame and don't mind being picked up. I have a boy rat that is balding and doesn't like to be held, but doesn't bite. His cagemate is a year old and is active and healthy, but also shies away from people, but is not aggressive. They all get around just fine, are active and eating well. I didn't want to have them put down at the vet because I heard it would be too painful. What should I do? VirtueofIntolerance: That line of thinking would go along with feeding your ailing dog or cat to a hungry lion because they're lower on the food chain. People that have never raised small animals, such as rats, don't realize what good pets they make. Just because they're rodents, have a shorter lifespan and don't "bark" or "meow" doesn't mean that they are less of a pet.
Does anyone use Pet Health Insurance? Does anyone here use pet health insurance? Do you like it or find it helpful at all? I'm considering it but don't know if its just going to be money lost in the end. Can you carry coverage over to another pet when one dies?
Does your pet have a health issue? Whether you have a puppy, old dog, kitten, old cat, rabbit, fish, horse, guinea pigs, or hamsters.. whatever pet you've chosen as your companion.. if they're limping, having a hard time breathing, have a gross protruding lump from their skin, not eating/drinking, have diarrhea, a weird rash, smell funny, or doing things that are very unlike their personality.. PLEASE, for the love of God, do not get on Yahoo! Answers and ask people on the INTERNET how to fix your pets problem. CALL. A. FREAKING. VETERINARIAN. For christs sake, think if you were in their position.. would you take advice from a handful of idiots on a computer or trust the opinion of your doctor??? And even if there happens to be one soul on here that knows what they're talking about.. you're still going to get bombarded with answers from people who have no clue about animals that could lead you to confusion and improper treatment. I'm really not trying to be offensive, but if you care about your pet.. call your vet.
Please help! need to find sites on pet health and conditions? My dog has a problem and I can't seem to get help solving it. Have been in and out of vets. Recomended treatments do not help. Bloody stools not consistant with a virus nor colitis What else can it be? Food allergies? Ulcer? Any suggestions appreciated.
What are pet health counsellors? What is the role of pet health counsellors within the veterinary practice? I know their name obviously suggests counselling involving animals and perhaps their owners but I was wondering what they deal with specifically?
Does anyone else absolutly love this website for pet health questions? I came across this site a while ago and really it has proved to be the greatest resource on pet health information I have been able to find online. I use it all the time to help friends and family and myself answer questions about pet problems that our vets have no answered adequately, or just to get a second opinion on treatments or symptoms etc. Its called Marvista Vet Pet Web Library.. http://www.marvistavet.com/html/the_pet_web_library.html If you havent checked it out before I suggest you do it is very helpful and informative resource for pet owners. Thanks to this site I have been able to find out many things and when my dog got an Aural Hematoma I was able to know all the options, treatments, causes etc and I was able to walk into the vet office informed and knowledgeable about my dogs problem. Anyone else use this site and love it? I say kudos to the people who made it its the best thing I have found to help me keep involved and informed about my pets health.
Does pet hair affect your health? I was wondering if pet hair affects your health. Because I have a dog with long hair and my mom won't let me keep him in my room because she is afraid that the dog's hair will harm my health while sleeping and it will get into my lungs. Is this true?
Pet health insurance comparison? What's better--VPI or ASPCA in terms of coverage, ease of processing coverage, etc.? Has anyone had good/bad experiences with either they can share? What are the key types of care I should make sure are covered based on your own experience? Thanks!
Are there any known human health problems with keeping a pet crow indoors, having full access to a house? My father has a pet crow, also has had numerous sinus and lung infections not to mention pnumonia on several occasions and still believes the scavenger has no part of his condition, he refuses to believe the uncleanliness of this creature defocating where ever it lands in his house doesn't hurt anything, even though he has been hospitalized several times for pulmanary infections and extreme diffuculty breathing, please share any information, thanks.
Is anyone else tired of being ridiculed when they ask a pet health question? I have asked a couple of questions in the past about pet health- just seeking some opinions on various subjects. Topics like earmites, bladder infections, etc. I have asked and I have seen others ask about home remedies for pets. It is so annoying to have many people treat you like a bad person or an irresponsible pet owner because you don't drop everything immediately and take the animal to the vet. Heck, I never took my children to the dr. immediately either for every little problem. I hate it when they answer something like, "well, if you can't afford proper care for your pet, then maybe you shouldnt have one at all". I am sure all of my pets are better off with me ( adopted strays living on their own before me and shelter pets) than if they were left to fend for themselves! At least they are eating regularly and receive all their necessary shots such as rabies, distemper, upper resp and others. I hate being made to feel like a monster because I dont have thousands to spend!! I guess I should clarify. I do take my pets...I spent 700 on my dog this summer. I wanted to have her teeth cleaned and the preliminary tests that I requested snowballed into Xrays and then a specialist. She is fine, just old, but by time she actually got her teeth cleaned, I had spent the 700. I also took a cat on New Years Eve morning because of a bladder infection. I use yahoo because I want to hear about others experiences and want help exercising commonsense. I also have noticed that in the real world, i am ridiculed for spending TOO much money on my pets. So...on here, I am a louse, but in the real world I am a sucker. Go figure! Yes...just like the rabbit with the runs story, that is what I am talking about EXACTLY!!! People need to get real and try to be more sympathetic to problems. Like maybe when you first obtained your pet, you were living at a certain income level and then through a series of unfortunate events, your income is lower and you are forced to cut corners now and then. THat doesnt mean you are a horrible pet owner that shoudl give up their pet in all cases! Maybe in some severe cases where the owner doesnt use common sense. ....Ok...I think I am done venting now.
Pet Health Insurance Comparison? Hey all, What have your experiences been with VPI or Pet Best insurance? I'm trying to decide between them and of course they each say they're the best. Pet Best says they pay a straight 80% after the deductible while VPI pays on a schedule. What have you expereinced?
Pet health insurance in the U.S.? I'm looking into purchasing health insurance for my 5 cats. I want illness and accident insurance, but also wellness benefits are very important as well as dental cleanings, are important to me. Does anyone have any experience with any particular company? Whether it good or bad, I'd like some input. Teener, that is a fantastic idea! Why didn't I think of that? I'm really more concerned with wellness care, since I have all indoor cats. I only vaccinate every 3 years (per my vets advice). And 3 of my cats are "seniors". Two are 9, a 6 year old, a 2 year old and a 1 year old. The lowest quote I got was $109 a month and I won't even mention the highest one!!! WOW! It's insane!
Pet health insurance in the U.S.? I'm looking into health insurance for my 5 cats. I'm comparing quotes and such. I'd like to know if anyone has any experience with any company in particular, good or bad! Thanks so much!
Where is a good site to compare pet health insurance? Looked at eopinions.com. Does anyone know where I can find a place to find a comprehensive list of reviews? Also, if you have experiences to share, that would be great as well. I originally thought of Pets Best but when I looked up information on the people that run it, they supposedly have a history of being involved in a scandal and the founder hunts for fun. It makes me nervous about his compassion towards animals. Sure they are wild animals, but I want to choose a plan that I feel most secure with. I have a healthy 10 month old cat. I want to take him for routine care (check ups yearly, shots, dental cleaning). And of course some coverage in the event of an unexpected medical condition. He doesn't seem to be a very high risk pet i.e. no birth defects, but you never know.
Pet health question? Today my dog, a pug, had some blood in her urine. She is "fixed". I have noticed that she has been urinating a lot more than usual. Could this be a kidney or bladder infection and if so what can be done? Any help is greatly appreciated
A whole bunch of pet health questions on everything I need HELP with.? I already made a post on my dogs teeth which is clear I need to take them to a vet to get them cleaned. So on with the question starting from here. Has anyone had a dog with no teeth? I fear that my oldest dogs teeth are beyond help. 90% sure. IDK about you people but just to get a dogs teeth cleaned around my area is $300 to $600 for extractions. I'm not made of money I will be dishing out a thousand or 2 for this. How much should I feed my dachshunds? I have one fat 5 year female and one skinny old 10ish year male. Too fat too skinny. I don't know what I should be doing now. How do you know if your dog has warms? Does that make a dog stay skinny? What could? I'm sure if I need to get a blood test for my dog its going to cost me an arm. I feel like I'm buying a used car. I'm not sure what else I had but now I forgot. Thanks for the help. Thats $300 for normal cleaning. $600 for tooth extractions. For my dog that has really bad teeth, can that cause pain the top half of his nose area. Ususally dogs use their nose a lot for everything even getting into a blanket. my eldest dog yipes if any kind of pressure is put on his nose area. Even a light blanket can hurt him. I'm still taking him to the vet. I hope if its just his teath that will fix the nose thing also. My eldest dog can't really bite anything...though sometimes he wants to play with a toy he can't really bite it.
