My Wonderful Pets

What service would you like to see in your pets grooming salon? What hours would you prefer and why?

I am trying to build a business plan- Any services or products you'd like to see in a grooming shop? What hours would best fit? Why?

  1. My biggest beef about grooming salons is that they insist on giving you a "window" of time - usually 4 hours or so .... and never once during that time do they take the dog out for a quick pee. So, inevitably, just as you come to pick your dog up, they tell you to wait so that they can give it a quick wipe... because it wet itself in the cage. As if the grooming experience wasn't stressful enough for the poor dog; he then ends up shivering in his own pee until you pick him up. This is the primary reason why I stopped going to groomers and have started grooming my pets regularly myself. As for additional services, well, I've noticed that many of the groomers where I live don't know how to express the anal glands. As for hours, well, since most dog owners have to work during the week, Saturday & Sunday hours are a great help. Good Luck with your business plan; I wish you lots of success in the New Year !
  2. I have Scottish Terriers which are so cute groomed correctly. I have taken them to many different groomers over the years. Here are my best and worst: Best- Calls me immediately when they are done so that I can get them before they are sitting in the crate for hours. Petco. Gives them a bandana secured with a rubberband so that It isn't so tight that I must struggle to untie it or it's on too tight. Uses my own shampoo so that they don't have a reaction to the harsh, cheap stuff. I don't mind the extra cost to use my shampoo, they get really itchy and sometimes a rash from cheap shampoo. Gives them the correct cut for the breed, rather than them looking like a schnauzer! ugh! The best groomer I ever had, was a breeder/groomer. She told me how my dogs acted during their bath, like they were the cutest dogs she'd ever bathed. It made me so happy! Worst: Injures them either by quicking the nails, burning with the hot trimmer or snips them with the sizzors. GOSH!! Why would I want to pay for that. But I have and some vet bills to go with it. I would much prefer they are left too long rather than any of the above. Takes wayyyy tooooo long because the are perfectionistic like this is the world champion dog show...It's just my pet. Do it and get it over so we can go home and enjoy the great smell. Asks me what I want done and then tells me I don't know what I'm talking about..geesh...I'm only paying for this, why not just give me a break or not ask me anyway. Of course they all should take in only dogs that are up to date on their vaccinations so that we aren't risking illness at the groomer. All that said. I often do them myself because of the nail quicking which I guess is really a challenge with dark nails. But I would so rather their nails are just nipped a little off rather than them licking their feet for a week. Good luck, you will do great if your concern is for the comfort and health of the pets and some respect toward the concerns of the Mommies and Daddies.. ha ha
